learning & development is a vital part of my creative practice. this year I have undertaken:
- 12-month ERDF-funded STEAMhouse Create programme
- 2022 Vivid Projects ‘Black Hole Club’ cohort
- 3-month Art Tech bootcamp
- 6-week Filming Performance course
- 6-week Electronic Music Production course with Saffron Music
i am part of the Create Programme 2022-2023 at STEAMhouse, Birmingham, which is a 12-month business development scheme for creatives funded by the ERDF.
i chose to focus on developing my freelance career as a self-employed artist working with communities & to develop my website & social media.
i’ve just finished a 3-month gallery technician & art handling skills bootcamp funded by west midlands combined authority and led by coventry university. i have a professional background working in museums & art galleries which also informs my art technician work. next steps is a stud wall building & carpentry course..
i was awarded a place on an intensive 6-week filming performance skills bootcamp led by solihull college & university centre in partnership with the space & overseen by director/producer hayley pepler. i was successful in applying for a bursary from screen skills.
i’m part of the 2022 black hole club cohort led by vivid projects, birmingham.
“Focussed on collaboration and exchange, Black Hole Club is an artists development programme created by Vivid Projects in 2014, that provides space for sharing skills, testing ideas …“
starting soon on 1 march 2023…
i have been successful in gaining a fully-funded place on a 6-week electronic music production course led by Saffron Music:
i completed a stud wall building course & a level 1 carpentry course at walsall training centre in march 2023 to enhance my art gallery & museum technician skills in installing exhibitions.

i have a degree in sculpture & i enjoyed spending time in the workshops & especially the metal workshop. i made metal art works which involved welding. Next I want to learn welding to refresh my skills & have found a course at wolverhampton city college:

as a film-maker & audio-visual artist, i am keen to learn more about AV & particularly projection … so i’m thinking about submitting a DYCP ACE funding bid to develop this aspect of my creative practice... & including art / gallery tech skills.
… i’m just mulling the idea over & forming a plan at the moment …
